10 Best Pike Moments In Star Trek Discovery

1. A Bright Future

Star Trek Discovery
CBS

The second season of Discovery closes with the refit of the Enterprise, the refit of Spock (from beard to beardless) and the discovery of the seventh signal, set by Burnham, letting them know she is alive and well.

The season ends with something that had been building for the year, one thing that had largely been absent from Discovery's first year: Hope.

As Pike commands the ship to Hit It, and blast off into deep space, the music swells and the ship streaks from view. This now brings us to a fork in the road.

Discovery season three is set to debut in 2020, with the ship having been sent 930 years into the future. Strange New Worlds has been announced, marking a huge victory for the fans who have clamoured for more of Pike, Number One, Spock and the Enterprise. The show has already been described as working toward bringing Star Trek back to a more episodic, hopeful feel.

Star Trek is about exploration at its core, be that scientific exploration, personal exploration or philosophical exploration. Anson Mount, along with Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck, have all displayed that they are more than up to the task of carrying a new show into a brighter future and, if some of the critics are to be heard, the darker tone set by Discovery can be easily lifted by these three.

It remains to be seen what Strange New Worlds will end up becoming, but it is safe to say that, at the very least, there is a strong captain to guide the show forward.
