10 Best Sci-Fi TV Shows Of 2020
5. The Midnight Gospel
Although it may appear to be on the contrary, Rick and Morty does not have a monopoly on animated sci-fi comedy goodness. There are a few alternative adult science-fiction cartoons that capture the imagination and get audiences giggling away, and 2020 brought along a new contender to the arena in the form of The Midnight Gospel.
This show is created by Pendelton Ward - the creator of Adventure Time - and comedian Duncan Trussell, so you know it has some talent behind it. The story revolves around a spacecaster (space podcaster) named Clancy, who uses his multiverse simulator to travel to dying foreign worlds and conduct interviews with residents. The show is incredibly unique, as it uses previous podcast material from Trussell and converts them into adventurous fantasy stories.
The animation on display is excellent, with lavish visuals that constantly feel like hallucinations, combined with some of the signature Ward cartoon style. In addition, the content of the series is fascinating, as the reconceptualising of Trussell's podcasts allow for the utmost creativity and work surprisingly well for the setting.
Each world is delivered with charm and heart, and allows for an array of sci-fi tropes such as zombies, simulators, death predictions and many more. The title lives up to the names behind it and is thoroughly worth your time if you enjoy cartoon creativity.
