Gemma's battle with Tara for her son and grandchildren had been bubbling under the surface for years, but it was in season six that it truly hit the surface. Tara's determination to take Thomas and Abel out of Charming didn't sit well the boys' grandmother, who ultimately killed her daughter-in-law.
Though she and Juice were able to hide Gemma's guilt from Jax for a long time, instead pointing the finger and placing the blame for Tara's death at Henry Lin's crew, Jax's mother essentially signed her own death warrant with the murder.
As soon as Jax found out the truth, Gemma decided to run, heading to her father's nursing home far away from Charming, but she knew she was living on borrowed time. Even when Jax turned up, she didn't try to argue or defend herself, she quietly walked outside and accepted her fate.
