10 Best TV Episodes Set In Just One Room

2. Better Call Saul - Chicanery

Community NBC
AMC

In this outstanding episode of phenomenal Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul's third season, the sibling rivalry between Chuck and Jimmy McGill comes to its climax, as Jimmy seeks to expose respected lawyer Chuck as a mentally unstable manipulator in front of the state bar. This comes after multiple episodes of build-up, and it makes for an immensely satisfying payoff.

The episode takes place almost entirely within the court hearing room, a formal, claustrophobic environment that heightens the tension to dangerously nerve-wracking levels. In a barnstorming performance from Michael McKean, the episode's most memorable moment sears onto our screens: an explosive outburst from Chuck in which, furious at being outplayed by Jimmy, he publicly reveals his burning animosity towards his brother.

As always with Better Call Saul, everything is executed near-perfectly with incredible attention to detail: the cinematography is beautiful, the editing is top-class, the acting is passionate yet nuanced, the writing is slick and suspenseful.

But what really elevates this episode is its fantastic usage of such a high-pressure setting to reveal Chuck and Jimmy's innermost thoughts, feelings, and flaws, demonstrating how paring a show back to its purest form can reveal the deepest truths about its characters.
