10 Better Call Saul Moments That Broke TV
3. Howard's Death
Howard's death in "Plan and Execution" did a great job of cementing the shift in tone of the final few episodes of the show. The time of Jimmy's funny schemes and cons was over, and now he had to embrace the consequences of his actions.
Howard's murder hit its audience as hard and unexpectedly as it did Kim and Jimmy. Everyone watching the show could tell that something had to go awry eventually. At that point, Lalo was already on his crusade against Gus, and Howard was on the verge of a breakdown after Kim and Jimmy ruined his life. One of these scenarios had to end in disaster... except, no one suspected it would be both of them together!
What makes Howard's demise so memorable is how sudden it was. One second, Howard is visiting the McGill-Wexler residence to tell them off and stand up for himself. The next, his brain is splattered all over their floor as Lalo comes out of nowhere and immediately reminds us why he's the boogeyman everyone on the show is so afraid of.
