10 Breaking Bad Characters Who Play Smaller, But Crucial Roles
1. Gale Boetticher
Poor Gale. That's all you can really say when you start to talk about Walt's lab partner.
Arguably one of the nice guys in the show, all Gale wanted to do was do his job, cook the meth, and enjoy his science. He worshipped Walt at one point, paying homage to the vastly superior knowledge he believed Walt held when it came to chemistry. He didn't upset anyone intentionally and was loyal to the cause but it just wasn't to be for Gale.
Shot in the face by Jesse under the instruction of Walt, it's Gale's death really which is the starting point for everything beginning to unravel for Gus Fring's drug empire.
A Los Pollos Hermanos wrapper in his apartment spikes Hank's interest to initially start investigating, while it's Gale's gift of the book, Leaves Of Grass, which leads Hank to finally working out it's been Walt all along.
Essentially, if it wasn't for Gale, then Walt, Gus, and Jesse would probably still be plodding along quite nicely in their lab under the laundrette.
Gale's importance to the story shouldn't be underestimated. It's easy to forget that he couldn't be controlled by Walt, something which led to him losing his job before eventually being forced back upon Walt by Gus.
He was caught in the cross-fire of a battle far bigger than he ever thought he would be involved in and only demonstrated further the number of people who suffered all thanks to the famous Heisenberg.
