10 Breaking Bad Characters Who Play Smaller, But Crucial Roles
4. Don Eladio
One of the biggest sub-plots in Breaking Bad is the history and back-story of Gustavo Fring. Who is he? Where did he come from? What are his motives for being the number one drug lord in America?
We find out a bit more about just why Gus is in the game when we are introduced to Don Eladio, both in a flashback to Gus' past, and in the scene where the Pollos Hermanos owner takes out the entire Cartel in one swoop.
Despite only being in the show for a minimal time, Don Eladio's presence is felt massively. Initially, we see just why Gus is so motivated to rule over the drug land thanks to Eladio's killing of his former business partner. This drives Gus and explains why see him visiting Hector on so many occasions throughout.
Don Eladio's death is also a key moment in Breaking Bad. It shows yet again just how far Gus is willing to go, how meticulous he is in his planning and just how cold-blooded and calculated he can be.
It emphasises even more the job Walt has on his hands when it comes to killing Gus, which makes the ploy with poisoning Brock and then ultimately getting Hector on side all the more evil genius.
