10 Breaking Bad Characters Who Play Smaller, But Crucial Roles
3. Ted Beneke
Ted Beneke is both loveable and detestable in equal measures. He pulls on your heartstrings with the sob stories of his dying business and want to keep it afloat, but then makes you want to punch him when he immediately spends the money Skyler gives him on a new Mercedes and refuses to pay his taxes.
He's the on the side love interest of Skyler for a short amount of time and you almost feel at one point he might be the one to step into the void and take Skyler away from Walt.
Crucially, in terms of the story, Ted does end up filing his taxes to keep the IRS off Skyler's back, while he does eventually promise her that he won't say a word of any of it to anyone. It's almost gut-wrenching to see him try and do a runner and ultimately hospitalise himself.
Ted's story in the show is one of importance, though. He's always nagging away in the back of Walt's mind given his relationship with Skyler, further adding to the angst in Walt's personality.
His story also shows just how far Skyler and Walt have come as a pair and whether she likes it or not, Mrs White is party to Walt's empire, with Ted just one of many to suffer because of their actions.
