Certainly one of the most surprising guest stars in Futurama history, Season 4 episode Love and Rocket featured none other than celebrated actor Sigourney Weaver.

After winning a contract with a big corporation, Professor Farnsworth decides to purchase the Planet Express ship a few upgrades in time for Valentine's Day, including a personality module - complete with a female voice.

Bender soon strikes up a romance with the ship, and the episode follows their increasingly turbulent whirlwind relationship from beginning to end (yes, it's that short-lived).

Sigourney Weaver lends her voice to the ship, which is something so unexpected that, unless you checked the credits, you probably never realised.

It's a rare comedic role for Weaver, who usually plays a no-nonsense protagonist or action hero, and over the course of twenty or so minutes we see her go from indifferent to hopelessly in love to murderously obsessed.

The episode also gave us Weaver's impression of HAL 9000 in a parody of the famous scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was a dream-come-true moment for die-hard sci-fi fans.
