10 Changes The Simpsons Hoped You Wouldn’t Notice

1. Homer's VAST Criminal Record

The Simpsons Homer Runs
20th Television

Where to begin with this one?

Homer Simpson is of course the lovable patriarch of the family, while often causing problems thanks to his buffoonery. His occasionally dangerous buffoonery. In fact, The Simpsons' Wikipedia calculates that Homer's high jinx should have handed him a prison term of no less than life in jail plus three hundred and fifty years, with fines ranging somewhere near $120million.

Although it is sometimes joked about, Homer's record seems to be continually wiped clean throughout the show. His most obvious and frequent recurring crime is criminal abuse of children. How often has he strangled Bart at this point? He is also responsible for criminal damage and destruction, including the time he threw pop rocks and buzz cola into a forum, resulting in the image shown above.

However, he is also responsible for manslaughter (it was he who ordered the t-shirt barrage that pushed Maude Flanders from the grandstand, and he who parked in the ambulance bay), enforced suicide (he drives Frank Grimes to madness, leading the man to grab live electricity cables) and numerous counts of driving under the influence, hit & run, theft, animal cruelty and others.

Homer Simpson may be a fun character (depending on the season) but the writers sure are hoping that the audience just forgets all of the awful things that he's done.
