2. Ser Barristan Selmy
While almost every character was handled with a lack of delicacy in the final season, Barristan had already given viewers a glimpse of what was to come, as the important and incredibly interesting character was unceremoniously killed off way before he should have been, purely for shock value.
Barristan, at first, felt like a relatively unimportant figure, as his age was a persistent subject of concern. Still, his experiences in the Kingsguard gave audiences an eye into how dedicated and loyal those who join their ranks are. Seeing him get stripped of his position was utterly heartbreaking, but fans were excited about this character's future after he aligned himself with Daenerys Targaryen.
Things were going well in this new setting. However, the peculiar decision was made to kill him off, which seemed mostly down to wanting a signature Game of Thrones death. This choice felt utterly unjustified, as the threat faced by the legendary Knight was hardly too intimidating compared to the tales of his skill, and seeing the character vengefully return to King's Landing was something fans were desperate to see.
Like his time with the Kingsguard, he was sent away before he had given all he could.
