Time to take a trip to the cosmos for the next tin foil hat theory. The show may have just picked Monument Valley for its scenic backdrop, but is there something more to the setting of Westworld?

Ford constantly refers to the "world" that he created, so let's take it in a more literal sense and theorise that Westworld is on the completely different world of Mars. Westworld is clearly set in some sort of future, but Nolan and Joy have been pretty coy on when that is exactly... Space travel is not beyond the realms of possibility.

With the arid deserts of the park looking like the wild, wild, West, you would be forgiven for thinking you are watching Matt Damon in The Martian. Imagine not only a park inhabited by robots, but robots from Mars!

We saw Bernard video calling with his wife, suggesting that it isn't just as simple as hopping on a plane over there, while the old phone home video call is also a calling card of outer space sci-fi films. To add a final touch to the theory, Jonathan Nolan even wrote the space travel film Interstellar!
