10 Crossover Events In The Star Trek Universe (Pre-Star Trek Picard)

6. Barclay, Star Trek Voyager

Star Trek Voyager Barclay
CBS

When: VOY: S2, Ep3 ‘Projections’, S6, Ep10 ‘Pathfinder’, S6, Ep24 ‘Lifeline’, S7, Ep6, ‘Inside Man’, S7, Ep20 ‘Author, Author’, S7, Ep25/26 ‘Endgame’

One of the most surprising positive additions to Voyager was Reginald Barclay. It’s up for debate as to how well his character worked on The Next Generation where he originated as a sufferer of holo-addiction, a 24th century version of getting lost in a fantasy today, but he blossomed on Voyager.

Barclay was the anxiety ridden comedic foil, annoying the rest of the crew with his shortcomings. It was fitting, then, that he finds his feet with a crew he is physically separated from for most of their interactions.

Why It Was Great

Although there are many choose from, it is the moment where Barclay first contacts Voyager that stands above the rest. It is the moment where Voyager finally makes verbal contact with Starfleet, all thanks to Barclay’s work on the Midas Array.

Having spent the episode hearing about Voyager from Barclay’s hero worship of them, to then becoming a member of the Voyager crew in-abstention, this crossover was a heart-warming moment that made, for a moment, the Galaxy seem like a much smaller place.
