10 Cult TV Shows Taken Too Soon

3. Dead Like Me

Bryan Fuller is no stranger to seeing his shows cut down before their prime. Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls both ended abruptly and while Dead Like Me at least wrapped up with a TV movie, it still doesn’t remove the sting of the show’s short run. In fact, Fuller left the show after five episodes of the first season due to the catch all excuse of ‘creative differences’.

Ostensibly a show about a crew of people who take a person’s soul right before they die before leading them to the afterlife, it also explored the impact on those left behind. The reapers would look different to how they did in life as an insurance against being recognised by loved ones.

The show actually provided network Showtime with their record audience for the time at just over one million viewers, but the departure of Fuller and what he perceived to be studio meddling and issues saw the series cut short after 29 episodes.
