5. The Big Bang Theory
Next up is a show that's already been on our screens for a good few years. The Big Bang Theory began in 2007 and is currently on its seventh season. For those who are yet to see what has become one of the most successful comedies of the era, The Big Bang Theory follows Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj all of whom are highly intelligent physicists and engineers after the arrival of the new girl who lives across the hall, the significantly less intelligent Penny. Most of the jokes are science based or about generally geeky subjects such as comics and sci-fi which perhaps now as we approach the eighth season are wearing a little thin. One reason for the show's popularity is its numerous running gags such as Sheldon's favourite spot on the coach, Raj's inability to talk to women as well, Howard's creepy relationship with his mother, Leonard's creepy relationship with his mother and as always helps in comedies of this magnitude several spoutable catch phrases, including the notorious 'Bazinga!'. However, despite concerns over its quality the show remains funny in a Friends kind of way, and will likely be one we are still all talking about in ten years time. I can pretty much guarantee it, and when it does happen, I can turn around and say I informed you thusly.
