In February 2013, the body of Eliza Lam was recovered from a water tank on top of The Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles. She had been missing for two weeks and was only found after residents using the tank complained about low pressure and that the water had a strange taste.

The mystery of how Lam managed to get onto the roof of the hotel and then into one of the large tanks captivated the world and, in 2021, this documentary was made.

Crime Scene: The Vanishing At The Cecil Hotel attempts to find out what happened to Lam in her final hours, speaking to fellow guests at The Cecil, staff members, and those who worked on the case.

The main hook of the documentary (and the story itself) is the video of Lam in the hotel elevator on the night she disappeared. It shows her acting erratically, running in and out of the elevator, and seemingly speaking to someone who isn't there.

All this and more is covered in the four-part Netflix series and the show actually reaches a verdict on what happened to Lam. Want to know what it is? Well, then you know what to do.
