10 Disturbing Documentary TV Series That Will Haunt You Forever

3. The Trials Of Gabriel Fernandez

Child abuse is never an easy topic to navigate, but one film that does so with as much grace and taste as possible is 2020's The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez.

Originally raised by other family members, eight-year-old Gabriel's mother won custody of her son in 2012. Eight months later, after suffering relentless mental and physical torture, Gabriel had died.

This six-part series tells a vile tale of an innocent boy failed by those who were meant to protect him. It's one of the hardest watches on this list, as it goes into graphic detail about what Gabriel's guardians did to him.

Even the director knew how tough this material would be to work with, as he kept a therapist on call for the entire two-year production period.

Depraved doesn't even begin to cover the events of The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez, so be careful if you can bring yourself to watch it.

If you can sit through all six parts, then you will get a window into the utterly inhumane thought process that would lead a mother to murder her own child.
