10 Doctor Who Monsters That Need Reworking

3. The Master

The time is ripe for the Master to reappear. After last starring in Tennant€™s swansong €˜The End of Time€™, John Simm has expressed an interest in returning. Simm must return but only for the opening segment of the Master€™s return before he regenerates into someone else €“ no, not Benedict Cumberbatch. We want an older actor, similar in age to Capaldi. That way their rivalry would be more believable. Charles Dance is a name often rumoured to appear in series eight as the Master. After his portrayal of Tywin Lannister in HBO€™s Game of Thrones he would be the perfect person to play such a deranged character as the Master. After all, Tywin was pretty deranged himself. We envisage the Master€™s return to be integral to the resurrection of Gallifrey and the return of the Time Lords. He was, after all, a tool in their former plan to return. Maybe the Master seeks to help return the Time Lords to our universe in order to exert revenge on them for their former ploy? Or maybe he could join forces with Rassilon (who in turn could regenerate again €“ it€™s highly unlikely that Timothy Dalton would become a recurring character on Doctor Who) and travel the universe together wreaking carnage? Whatever his return is it needs to be set off-Earth. The Master has caused too much carnage on Earth as Harold Saxon and he needs to give humanity a rest. Even with regenerating humanity would still recognise his name. We would love to see the Master join forces with the Daleks (again, eventually, once the Daleks return in series 10) in a similar vein to their many team-ups in the classic series. It€™s always brilliant when two foes meet.
