10 Doctor Who Episodes Where Evil Won

2. The Caves of Androzani

The Caves of Androzani proves that when evil wins, nobody does.

The final adventure for the Fifth Doctor doesn't have a single sympathetic character in it beyond him and Peri. There's Stotz and the grizzled gunrunners, malevolent corporate player Morgus, no-nonsense General Chellak, and then there's the embittered and obsessive Sharaz Jek. And all of these men get small victories throughout Caves of Androzani.

Morgus and Stotz profit from both sides of the conflict between Chellak and Jek, as they're funding the General and supplying arms to Jek's androids. Morgus also attempts a corporate takeover of his own government by assassinating the President of Androzani.

General Chellak launches a valiant effort to kill Sharaz Jek and his androids, and while he destroys most of the androids, he and his soldiers are killed in the conflict. Then, finally, Sharaz Jek finally gets to kill his hated rival, Morgus, but eventually succumbs to the gunshot wound delivered by Stotz.

The bleak climax of The Caves of Androzani proves the old adage that those who seek revenge ought to dig two graves, or in the case of Androzani, enough graves for the majority of the cast of characters!
