10 Doctor Who Moments The Actors Hated

1. Colin Baker Vs. THAT Coat

Even if you've never seen an episode of Colin Baker's Doctor Who, chances are that you know about his infamous costume.

The Sixth Doctor's multi-coloured patchwork coat, often accompanied by an equally loud necktie, has a bigger legacy than it probably deserved. It's so iconic that Captain Jack Harkness himself once wore it, which must've stoked some complicated feelings within Colin Baker. Why? Because he absolutely despises it.

In one interview, Baker explained that he initially wanted his version of the Doctor to wear a dark costume, as it made sense for someone like the Doctor to not draw attention to himself as he zipped around history. "The description I gave was almost exactly what Christopher Eccleston ended up wearing," he said. "And they said that’s a very good idea, however… they produced my costume."

Can you imagine if the Sixth Doctor had been dressed like Christopher Eccleston for the entirety of his tenure? What a bizarre image. It's also bizarre that they went in completely the opposite direction, with a technicolour dreamcoat that even Joseph would've thought was a bit much.

In a separate interview, he called his Doctor's costume "awful", explaining that it reflected the colourful glam-rock '80s period in which he played the Doctor.

Still, any publicity is good publicity, and there probably isn't a Doctor Who fan alive today, new or old, who doesn't recognise Six's coat. And that's got to count for something... right?
