10 Doctor Who Storylines That Fans Pretend Never Happened

4. The End Of The Trial Of A Time Lord

A prime example of a story that fans pretend doesn't exist because it was just so, so bungled is the last section of the 1986 series, The Trial of a Time Lord. Originally, this two-part story, labelled as The Ultimate Foe, was going to be written by Robert Holmes however he tragically passed away before work was completed. Script editor Eric Saward took up the challenge of writing the missing final episode, but his take on the culmination of a whole year of stories was seen as unsatisfactory and rejected by producer John Nathan-Turner, an act that angered Saward so much he resigned. The final episode was eventually supplied by Pip and Jane Baker. They turned in a script that was... spelt correctly and had wonderful grammar. At the risk of being impolite, any story that features not only a megabyte modem but also a limbo atrophier deserves to be expunged from the collective consciousness. The majority of fans sincerely wish the Trial series had ended better, particularly because the botched ending contributed in no small part to Colin Baker being sacked.
