10 Failed TV Pilots We Wish We Could See

8. Friday Night Dinner (U.S.)Friday Night DinnerNetwork/Season: NBC/2012 Starring: Allison Janney and Tony Shaloub Description: I swear, this is the last UK import, which is more than the American entertainment industry can say. This one is a particularly interesting case because none other than Greg Daniels, aka "that guy behind The Office U.S." and director Ken Kwapis (also an Office U.S. vet) were trying to strike Gold in them thar' hills once again. This time the concept is a Jewish family's tradition of Shabbat, their Friday night dinner that leads to their Sabbath on Saturday. Why We Didn't See It: NBC didn't like it, so we never saw it. Not much was really said about the project, though some who saw it said that it wasn't that good. Then again, The Office seemed pretty stale during its first mid-season run, but took off after it found its footing. So we might have still had something to work off ot here. Why We Wished We Could See It:If anyone could carry a show involving a family's chaotic (and comedic) family dinners, it'd be Janney and Shaloub. Both are amazing character actors who've worked their way through the ranks, as well as two Stanley Tucci films, so they know their way around comedic improv. Seeing them riff off of each other while playing husband and wife sounds like almost too good of a prospect. Even if everything else is off, at the very least you'll have their performances to look forward to. Life After Death?: Another ghost. No stills, no clips, nothing. Though if you're keen on checking out the original, it had a run on BBC America, and is currently available on Amazon Instant Video and Region 2 DVD.
