10 False Star Trek Facts You Probably Still Believe

5. The Odd-Numbered Movies Are All Terrible

This is a myth that has entered the zeitgeist that is simply not true. While some of the even numbered movies certainly stand out as excellent additions to the franchise, that is not to say that they are the only good ones to watch.

The Motion Picture, while perhaps not as exciting as those that followed, offered stunning special effects and a thought provoking plot. The Search for Spock includes the fantastic theft of the Enterprise, along with the beautiful designs of Spacedock and the USS Excelsior. The Final Frontier certainly offers support to the odd numbered myth, but Generations has many excellent moments.

Insurrection was criticised for being too like an episode of the Next Generation, which is both fair and not, as more of these stories were what the audience wanted to see. J.J. Abrams' reboot was the eleventh film, yet revitalised the franchise for a new generation. Star Trek Beyond, while far from perfect, still offered a compelling storyline.

Conversely, while almost all of the even numbered films are great, both Star Trek: Nemesis and Star Trek Into Darkness dropped in quality from those that had come before, showing that the rule is really more to personal taste than a hard and fast law.

The Star Trek films are all quite different from each other, though all have their own strengths. Even the reviled Star Trek V has the excellent bookends of Kirk, Spock and McCoy camping out in Yosemite Park. None of the films are perfect, but then, is anything?
