10 Fantasy Series That Could Be The Next Game Of Thrones

5. The Kingkiller Chronicles

Kingkiller Chronicles
Penguin Books

Before beginning, a quick note: There is an adaptation of the Kingkiller Chronicles coming, however, it is as a movie directed by Sam Raimi. There also is, separately, a Kingkiller Chronicles television show coming - however that is a prequel, being made with the help of Hamilton's Lin Manuel-Miranda.

The Kingkiller Chronicles is a series of novels - as of this writing still unfinished - telling the tale of Kvothe, a young man who will be known as the Kingkiller, before settling down to tend a bar. He tells his tales to a chronicler as darkness rises and - the story hints - Kvothe will once again need to rise to fight against the encroaching darkness.

This is a huge and meticulously detailed world, one that is as well drawn as Westeros, and with perhaps more personality. This show - while a bit lighter and softer - would fill the cravings of fans left looking for true characters existing in a world beyond imagining, a world in which magic lurks around every corner, but so do the dredges of life.

It's a series that reaches soaring heights and human lows. It's one of the best book series out there and - as it is roughly as long as a whale - the book series would work marvelously as a binge-worthy television series.
