10 Funniest South Park Characters Ever
2. Leopold "Butters" Stotch
On the flip-side of Cartman's anarchism, we have the most recurring of his victims, the traumatic naïve punching bag that easily accumulates the most hatred, injuries and groundings of any other character. Which is where the majority of the sinister cynicism the comedy is derived from for this poor boy, as he also happens to be the purest, sweetest young chap amongst a civilisation of megalomaniac savages.
Parker and Stone have gone on record to say that their only regret with the South Park movie (Bigger, Longer and Uncut, 1999) is that it didn't feature Butters in any capacity. And, if you've watched the show for some time, you'll see exactly why.
Butters is a character that can never win at anything he does, his hearts always in the right place but he himself never is, as whenever he's often forced to participate in what the rest of the boys are doing, he ends up with either a ninja star in his eye, kidnapped and held hostage by terrorists or ridiculed and berated to no end.
Between his abusive parents, grandmother, Cartman and every other iniquity that plagues this kid's life, it's hard not to find yourself feeling guilty for laughing, but with the outrageous amount of things are part and parcel with Butters, from the manslaughter of a dance troop, to his mother trying to drown him, it's hard to prevent your urine from trickling.
