10 Game Of Thrones Moments That Didn't Live Up To Expectations

5. The "Long" Night

Oh boy, there is a lot to unpack with this one.

The episode titled "The Long Night" was named after the event from thousands of years ago when a single winter lasted an entire generation and spawned the legend of the White Walkers.

The decades-long winter came to an end when the legendary warrior, Azor Ahai, sacrificed his lover in order to defeat the Night King with his flaming sword, Lightbringer.

After building up the threat of the White Walkers since the very first shot of the show, the eventual payoff was underwhelming at best. Everything fans were led to believe about the show ending in a single episode halfway into the season.

Turns out the army of the dead wasn't actually a big deal and proved no match for plot armour. It almost feels as though the show forgot what it was supposed to be about. The Night King and his entourage proved less of a threat than Joffrey in the end.

What was supposed to be Jon's most anticipated battle saw him run around and shout at a dragon. The tension lost any sense of credibility as characters would become swarmed by wights then appear fine moments later.

The entire episode is a testament to the failure of season 8 and ruined expectations.
