Queue the klaxon sounds because it is time to talk about Cleganebowl.

Cleganebowl refers to the long-awaited fight between brothers Gregor "The Mountain" and Sandor "The Hound". While not one of the many legitimate prophecies established in the world of Game of Thrones, the clash between Clegane's seemed inevitable.

The first instance was a theorised trial by combat between Cersei and the High Sparrow where Sandor would represent the faith that gave him a new outlook on life. As the episodes pressed on, and Sandor became a more prominent character, the speculation of when Cleganebowl would happen grew with each week.

They finally reunited when Jon brought a wight to Kingslanding and... nothing. It wasn't until the penultimate episode of season 8 when viewers got to witness the much-anticipated fight.

The dual ended with both brothers perishing into the fiery depths below but the fight itself was completely unnecessary. Danaerys had already nuked Kingslanding with dragon fire meaning that Gregor would likely have died regardless.

Sandor died for no other reason than a glimpse of fan service during a disastrous final season.
