10 Game Of Thrones Facts That Will Blow Your Mind

5. Nearly 150 Babies Were Named "Khaleesi" In 2012

Here's an insane way to measure the popularity of a show; count how many newborn babies are given names based on characters of said show. Yes, as ridiculous as it may sound, the popularity of Game Of Thrones seems to know no bounds, and is making people adopt its fictional customs into their own private lives. It would be one thing to name your baby Arya, a great name outside of Westeros and based on one of the most popular characters in the whole story. Even Daenerys - a name clearly not of this world - sounds passable, with Dany being such a catchy nickname. But this one might be going a little too far. According to Social Security Administration records, nearly 150 newborn baby girls were given the name "Khaleesi" in 2012. That's the year of the second season, when Daenerys goes to Qarth and starts to truly become "the mother of dragons". Khaleesi means "queen" in Dothraki, which just makes this fact all the more stranger. Almost 150 mothers were totally fine with naming their baby daughters after a word from a fictional language. The baby names for Aria, Daenerys, Tyrion and - yes - even Tyrionna (at least five women did that) have been growing as well, but none of those are as bizarre as this one.
