6. 'I Dreamed A Dream' - Les Miserables, 'Dream On'
When Glee announced that they'd be recruiting Broadway legend Idina Menzel for the show, fans thought their prayers had been answered after a rallying call for Menzel to play Rachel's biological mother, something called for due to Lea Michele's uncanny and startling resemblance to Menzel. However, in 'Dream On', we get to see them sing side by side in an unconventional and heartbreaking way, to the tune of 'Les Miserables' standout 'I Dreamed A Dream,' It's clear that both Michele and Menzel are in their element here from the get-go, their voices restrained, broken and beautiful. It's easily something the two Broadway stars could easily have covered without breaking a sweat and yet it's a testament to both singers that there's no diva-style attempts at overpowering the other. It sounds like the long-lost laments between a mother and a daughter, exactly how it should have been and a true triumph from Menzel and Michele.
