7. Marvel's Daredevil
Who's In It? Charlie Cox, Rosario Dawson, Vincent D'Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson What's It About? A blind lawyer, with his other senses superhumanly enhanced, fights crime as a costumed superhero. Why Should I Watch? With their biggest rivals enjoying a striking monopoly over the small screen, Marvel really needed to hit back at DC, and do so with severe force. That blistering package of power came in the shape of Daredevil, which sent the internet into hysteria, and has now been renewed for a second round. Rendered with bruising energy and fronted by a dynamic performance from Cox, this is the small screen experience Marvel fans have always desired. Clearly the studio have caught the infectious Netflix bug too as they have already locked in an additional three original shows for the digital platform - Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Following the likes of Gotham and Arrow, Daredevil benefits from a far bleaker tone and visual pallet. It feels urgent and potent, yet always remains alarmingly entertaining. The vigorous action sequences rank among the very best the studio has ever produced -regardless of screen size. Hand-to-hand combat strikes with precision and aggression, and a large quantity of work here is composed through stunts rather than green screen effects. It also merges neatly into the more adult divisions of Marvel's comic lore and clearly that trend is set to continue with the second season as we'll be seeing Jon Bernthal enter the frame as The Punisher; perhaps the most iconic and violent member of Marvel's roster.
