10 Greatest Netflix Original TV Shows

6. Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp

Who's In It? Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, Chris Pine and Jason Schwartzman What's It About? Spin-off from 2001 cult classic which follows the counselors and campers on their first day at Camp Firewood in the summer of 1981. Why Should I Watch? Featuring a stacked ensemble cast - likely the starriest to reach the small screen for many years - this side-splitting continuation of the Wet Hot American Summer vehicle is delightful binge entertainment. The early 2000s were the breeding ground for the cult classic, with a then largely unknown cast of newbies such as Rudd, Poehler and Cooper leading the pack. Fourteen years later, the whole gang returns, along with new additions like Schwartzman and Pine, for the prequel, which might actually even be better than the original film. Thanks to razor-sharp writing with the flexibility of improv for good measure, we are watching performers at the peak of their powers immersing themselves in something vivid and theatrical. Set at Camp Firewood in 1981, the adult actors play teenagers on their first day as camp counselors and it€™s totally absurd and brilliant at the same time. The acting is outrageous and over the top, but that€™s entirely the point and it delivers with a number of belly laughs each episode. Simply put: First Day Of Camp is goofy, zany fun. You don€™t have to watch the movie to watch and understand the TV series, but it doesn€™t hurt to get a grasp of the characters and the style. Considering how brilliantly this season was received by audiences and critics alike, here's hoping the gang reunite again for a second summer. It certainly makes sense financially for Netflix.
