10 Greatest Fleet Arrivals In Star Trek
7. Starfleet Arrives At Vulcan
Not all fleet arrivals are triumphant moments. In Star Trek, the new flagship of the Federation should have received more pomp and circumstance before being pressed into service. Instead, it becomes part of an armada, ordered to Vulcan, ready to respond to an unidentified threat.
The reveal of the new ship, in full HD as well, was a hugely uplifting moment, while Michael Giacchino's pounding score rang in the audience's ears. There was even a moment for us all to grin as poor Sulu struggled to get to grips with this flashy new ship, parking break and all.
The slight delay saved all of their lives. While the Newton, the Mayflower, and the Armstrong all warped ahead of them, the Enterprise followed a few moments behind. When they dropped out of warp, they dropped straight into hell.
The entire armada had been destroyed by the Narada, Nero's mining ship from the 24th Century. Though a simple vessel in that time, it had been transported to the past and had quite suddenly become the most advanced ship flying around. Nero, mad with grief over the destruction of his homeworld, set his sights on revenge against one Vulcan in particular, leading to the destruction of several starships and an entire world. He may have been quite insane, but his actions, and the destruction they wrought, all combined to make a certain Spock 'emotionally compromised.'
