10 Greatest Time Travel TV Shows Of All Time
7. Timeless
Timeless is a big budget exploration of not only seeing the past, but having to fight to preserve it. It's what you get when a major network puts all they've got behind a science fiction show that uses time travel as a central conceit in itself, which is remarkable in itself.
Normally, these kind of shows require a lot of money to properly execute, and often networks either underfund them to the point where they just look cheap, or put them first up against the wall for cancellation if they don't perform spectacularly right out of the gate. NBC has clearly invested in this show, and you can tell. It's glitzy, gorgeous to look at, and fairly intelligent, although not too smart for its own good. The network did cancel the show, but then surprisingly reversed that decision just a few days later due to outcry from fans.
Timeless is the story of three individuals who are thrust into time travel after a random baddie steals a secret time machine and decides to go into the past to dick with the timeline. No, he isn't the Master, but in all fairness it does feel like the sort of thing he would do. The show gets the opportunity to explore a variety of different time periods, all sumptuously brought to life and, perhaps most impressively, deftly balances both the requisite action sequences with the more low-key historical elements.
