10 Hidden Gem Horror TV Shows You Need To Watch
7. Slasher
Originally broadcast on now-defunct horror network Chiller, ongoing anthology series Slasher was later picked up by Netflix, and then genre-dedicated streaming service Shudder. However, despite the high quality and positive reviews, the niche nature of both the show’s original and current broadcasting homes has meant it has as yet not reached the wider audience it sorely deserves.
As implied by the name, Slasher calls back to classic movie tropes by featuring a different masked serial killer and new group of core characters each season, with the first following Katie McGrath’s Sarah as her return to the own where her parents were killed sparks a spate of copycat murders.
Fans of gory horror will appreciate the dedication the show has to its titular violence, however this is supported by excellent writing, fast pacing, and killer performances. The series is also unafraid to innovate, with the upcoming fifth season ‘Ripper’ taking on a new, historical setting in the 19th century.
As of 2022, Slasher is still going strong, and we can only hope that it will be renewed for a further sixth season, allowing it to gain the same public renown as fellow horror anthology American Horror Story.
