10 Horror TV Shows That Had No Right To Be This Good
6. What We Do In The Shadows
Back before he was Marvel’s latest directorial darling, Taika Waititi produced one of the funniest horror comedies in recent history in 2014’s What We Do In The Shadows. Centred on a group of frankly ridiculous vampires who invite a documentary crew to film their lives in the lead up to a supernatural ball, the film was partially crowdfunded, though it thankfully received international critical acclaim following its release and is now a favourite of many comedy and horror fans alike.
When it was announced that a TV show based on the film, but featuring new characters and expanding the source material, was in production, it was understandably thought incapable of living up to the original. After all, it had arguably earned cult classic status not even a decade after it wrapped. But in a pleasant surprise, the television What We Do In The Shadows more than honours and matches its origins in quality, having been nominated for over 15 Emmys.
The new characters are unfairly hilarious, introducing new dynamics that separate it from the original and made instant stars of its main cast. The show even managed to rope in a variety of famous actors from other vampire franchises, including Wesley Snipes' Blade, for a series of cameos that may genuinely form one of the best crossovers in the genre. What We Do In The Shadows has since been renewed for further fifth and sixth seasons before the fourth even aired, and long may it immortally continue!
