10 Iconic Moments From Shounen Anime

3. L Dies - Death Note

Often hailed by many as the Magnum Opus of anime, Death Note was a pure masterpiece from start to finish. The only thing that fans sometimes do complain about is a loss of excitement following a certain someone’s death. While that may indeed be true, the death itself gave us one of the most heart-breaking and unforgettable moments in anime history.

Ever since debuting, L was one of the most popular characters on the show. His unique dynamic with Light kept fans on the edge of their seats, desperate to see who came out on top on this complex game of cat and mouse.

In the end, it was Light’s ruthlessness that won. He sets an elaborate plan into motion that manipulates Rem, who simply wanted to give Missa a longer life, into writing L’s name in her Death Note. L’s last moments became the stuff of legend, as he falls flat on his face, wondering who won this deadly game, before realization eventually sets in that he was the one who lost.

The story, the build-up, the tension, and finally the climax, everything was carved to perfection.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
