7. Scary Terry - Rick & Morty
That’s right bitch, Scary Terry makes the cut.
Rick & Morty has a lot of great characters only in a single episode, a clear consequence of them bouncing around from galaxy to galaxy, adventure to adventure. While a lot of the characters were great, none have been absorbed into the popular fandom the way Scary Terry has.
Jaguar, King Jellybean, Fart, Risotto Groupon and the various Stand By Me Mortys have all lived long in the collective memory well past their appearances too. However, there’s just something about Scary Terry, the Freddy Kruger parody was the testicle chin, that made him stand out.
Even for Rick & Morty, Scary Terry’s storyline is eccentric and unpredictable. Appearing in the third level of Mr Goldenfold’s dream, Rick & Morty run from this ‘legally safe knock off’ of Freddy with swords for fingers while they’re already in the midst of an Inception parody.
Scary Terry’s ‘bitch’ catchphrase gives him a memorable edge from the start, but it’s how quickly he develops which makes him so great. He moves away from a stock baddie as we see his own nightmares of school humiliation, then watch him travel upwards through the dreams to help Rick & Morty escape.
