10 Iconic TV Characters Who Only Appeared In One Episode

6. That Guy - Futurama

Sometimes known as ‘The ‘80s Guy’ or ‘The Boneitis Guy’, That Guy was the ‘80s Wall Street defrostee who ended up taking control of Planet Express. He quickly promoted Fry and boosted Planet Express’ public image with magazine PR and Apple style artful adverts, before selling the inflated company to Mom for her to gut.

However, to reduce him down to just his plot points does him a disservice. Plenty of Futurama characters only appeared in a single episode to thrust forward the plot, but none are anywhere near as memorable as That Guy.

Despite being introduced by Fry, we quickly see him interact with the whole crew. Essentially we agree with him that Planet Express is badly ran, although this slick, image conscious approach doesn’t seem much better.

Of course, his incredibly strange death plays a part too. He mentions Boneitis as his reason for getting frozen, and it seems just that; a simple plot device to explain why he’s in the 31st Century. It’s never mentioned again until the final scene.

It’s a little convenient, sure, but if you’re watching Futurama for the plot you’re watching for the wrong reason. His hilariously animated death is a big reason he lives so long in the memory.
