10 Interesting Facts About The Making Of Game Of Thrones
7. Kit Harington’s Broken Ankle Led To Complications In Season 3
You’d expect injuries to happen when making a show like Game of Thrones. But in the case of Kit Harington, he managed to injure himself outside of the show’s production cycle.
In July 2012, Harington returned from a night out in London and realised he’d lost his keys. He then attempted to climb into his flat via the window. Unfortunately, this manoeuvre didn’t work out, and Harington fell, breaking his ankle in the process.
This injury occurred just a few weeks before Season 3 was due to start production. Though the bulk of Harington’s scenes weren’t scheduled until winter, his broken ankle still caused a few problems. As well as pushing back the production date, Harington was forced to sit out of certain scenes and let a double do the work instead.
Whilst the end result was practically seamless, Harington wasn’t comfortable with someone else playing the role of Jon Snow. After just two seasons, he already felt protective about his character.
