Though Amazon Prime is on the verge of launching what has been confirmed to be the most expensive TV show ever made in their Lord of the Rings silver screen epic, set for release in September, the streaming juggernaut have hardly been pulling in their purse strings in the lead-up to that eye-watering adventure.

Dropping in November of 2021, The Wheel of Time, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred, is said to have cost Jeff Bezos a staggering $80 million to create, with that working out at $10 million an episode. And while it would go on to become Amazon Prime's second most watched original show, after Hunters, it's hard to escape the feeling of this particular fantasy epic getting lost in the shuffle on the back of Netflix's far more popular The Witcher second season.

Again, the fact that The Rings of Power's incoming shadow seems to be stealing the headlines already also appears to have taken the shine away from an admittedly well received attempt at giving Prime its first real grand series hit. So, Bezos will be hoping said $465 million investment in J.R.R. Tolkein's fantasy land is enough to finally rule the streaming world.
