10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Static Shock

3. The Cast Included A Who's Who Of Black Voiceover Artists

Milestone Comics' original goal was to create comics that increased representation of minorities in comics. This mindset carried over to Static Shock's stellar voice cast.

The voice cast featured in the show included some of the finest Black actors in Hollywood: Phil LaMarr, Kevin Michael Richardson, Dennis Haysbert, CCH Pounder, Alfre Woodward, Garrett Morris, Cree Summer, Michael Clarke Duncan, Roscoe Lee Brown, and Michael Jai White.

Virgil, being a teenager, had a couple hobbies that enabled dozens of pop culture guest stars - basketball and music. As a result, the show included cameos from Coolio, Terence Trent D'Arby, Tone Loc, Karl Malone, Shaq, A.J. McLean (Backstreet Boys), Lil' Romeo (who also provided the theme), Steve Nash, and Yao Ming.

This made the show extremely marketable to an audience the same age as Virgil, with the same interests and likes.

In one instance, Phil LaMarr, who played Static, also played the DCAU Jon Stewart Green Lantern in a crossover, leading to a case of LaMarr carrying on a conversation with himself!
