10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About X-Men: Evolution

9. It Was An International Effort

Evolution was, for its time, a fairly complex show to put together, utilizing talent and technology from multiple sources - a far cry from the days of one company being responsible for every part of a cartoon.

Evolution may have been produced and finalized for airing by Film Roman in Burbank, but it was voiced by primarily Canadian actors in Vancouver, and the animation was completed in Japan and South Korea, split among four different animation houses.

Considering the monthly budget for the show was only $350,000, the producers had to be very conscious of the costs involved. For the first season, the producers were flying from Hollywood to Vancouver every week so they could supervise and sit in on the voice recording sessions.

Boyd Kirkland told Marvel Animation Age that after the show proved to be a hit and was renewed, it quickly became apparent that the constant shuttling of the production team to Vancouver was impractical and, if continued, would be immensely expensive. With this in mind, Warner Bros. paid to have a direct digital communication line from the Film Roman studios to the voice studio in Canada.

Considering the state of high-speed internet in the very early 2000s, it makes one wonder how reliable the connection was and whether the savings were really worth it!
