4. The Production Team Wanted To Use Wolverine WAY More Than They Were Allowed
Boyd Kirkland, one of the driving forces behind Evolution, has gone on record in an interview with popgeeks.com that the the hands of the producers were always tied with Wolverine. Given the violent aspect of his power and temper, and because he was an adult on a show that Kids WB wanted focused on the younger cast members, the network constantly was trying to rein in his use.
The problem, of course, was that even at that point, before Hugh Jackman would own the role over the next two decades, Wolverine had consistently been one of Marvel's most popular characters in all mediums. Despite the fact that many of the finest episodes of the nineties X-Men cartoon had centered around the Ol' Canucklehead, Kids WB didn't seem to grasp the weapon (X) they had in their arsenal for the show.
His inclusion in Evolution would inevitably attract fans, and the requests to minimize his use frustrated the producers, who even used an older Wolverine costume to separate him from current comics continuity.
