10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About X-Men: Evolution

3. It Created X-23

Weapon X-23, who would come to be known as Laura Kinney, has become one of the most popular new Marvel characters created in the last two decades. While this was no doubt helped by her outstanding portrayal in the Logan film, Laura originated on Evolution.

She first appeared as a character in Season three; her addition to the show was an effort to create a Wolverine-like character who could connect to the younger audience that Evolution was aimed at. While her inclusion may have been aimed at creating a more relatable character, her origin was very dark.

X-23 is a partial clone of Wolverine, bred from birth by HYDRA to be an assassin. She was raised in almost total isolation, taught to repress her emotions. As part of her creation, her DNA had to be supplemented somewhat, leading to her own version of Logan's berzerker rage when angered. She was highly skilled in various martial arts and combat, able to take on several X-Men at once, and pushed even Wolverine to his limits.

Although she only appeared in two episodes, Marvel very quickly noted how popular Laura was among fans of the show, and it didn't take long before she was moved into the main Marvel universe continuity, with her origin and backstory slightly altered.
