10 Mistakes That Made TV Shows Better

2. Alicent Breaks Character - House Of The Dragon

House of the Dragon's eighth episode, "The Lord of the Tides," sees the royal families gather for a feast where an ailing King Viserys (Paddy Considine) begs them to put their differences aside and make amends.

Though the truce doesn't last long, there is a brief period of joy as the assembled party feasts and enjoys themselves.

During the montage of boozy revelry, we briefly see Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) playfully clapping his hands across the table, and if you look closely, his daughter Alicent (Olivia Cooke) can be seen silently mouthing the words to him, "Stop making me laugh."

This was actually a case of actress Olivia Cooke breaking character due to Rhys Ifans' possibly unscripted tomfoolery, yet director Geeta Vasant Patel evidently liked the moment enough to keep it in the final cut, albeit with Alicent's dialogue volume cranked way down as to be almost inaudible.

If you're even remotely able to read lips, though, it's clear what she's saying.

Accidental though it may be, it's nevertheless a great, fleeting moment which shows organic joy between father and daughter, the sort that can't easily be scripted or performed. This was an honest moment that felt so natural precisely because it was.
