10 Most Controversial Stargate Episodes

1. Stargate SG-1, Season 5 Episode 21 - Meridian

Stargate Universe, Season 1 Episode 16 - Sabotage

Doctor Daniel Jackson was a fan-favorite character, beloved by many. Especially SG-1's female fans, who viewed Dr. Jackson as a great character and an attractive actor for the time.

Thus those fans, among most others, were shocked and appalled when Dr. Jackson died in the season five finale, titled "Meridian".

In this episode, Daniel is exposed to a lethal amount of radiation after saving an entire planet from a nuclear catastrophe. This catastrophe was caused by the civilization's hubris after they tried to create a weapon using an unstable resource, known as Naquadria.

Daniel slowly and painfully suffered through his sickness, entering a dream-like world where he says a fond farewell to his teammates and discusses the process of ascension with Oma, a being that helps people across the galaxy ascend.

Ascension is basically a way for beings to not necessarily die, but "ascend to a higher plane of existence" and become god-like ghosts able to understand the mysteries of the universe.

This method of killing off Dr. Jackson meant that the showrunners could bring him back from his ascension, which they did after nearly every Stargate fan on Earth rebelled against MGM when the episode first aired.

Though Daniel was gone only for a few seasons before triumphantly returning to be part of the main roster for the end of the series, the episode where he died remains the most controversial in all of Stargate's long history.
