10 Most Disappointing Death Scenes In Game Of Thrones
3. Barristan Selmy
Barristan Selmy’s nickname - Barristan the Bold - was a title he more than deserved. During his youth he killed the leader of House Blackfyre in the War of the Ninepenny Kings, and he was also invaluable in the battle against the Kingswood Brotherhood.
Indeed, he had such an admirable reputation that Robert Baratheon made him commander of the new Kingsguard despite the fact that he had just fought for the Targaryens.
Once he had been dismissed by Joffrey, Sir Barristan then travelled to Essos and served Daenerys with an equal level of loyalty and courage.
For reasons that are not entirely clear, the showrunners chose to have Sir Barristan butchered in the streets of Meereen by the Sons of the Harpy, and given that he was one of the most honourable characters in the show, such a death felt criminally unjustified.
What’s more, in the books Sir Barristan is still alive, and given that the fifth season was based upon Martin’s published work, his death felt like a completely unnecessary deviation from the source material.
