10 Most Emotional Avatar The Last Airbender Moments

1. Leaves From The Vine - The Tale of Iroh

Iroh Avatar

It couldn't have been anything else, even the first chords of this song make fans everywhere begin to well up. The episode Tales From Ba Sing Sai is phenomenal, and The Tale of Iroh within it is five minutes of pure storytelling perfection. Even were it a standalone animated short with no relation to the show, it would make its audience cry.

The significance of this sequence is vast, as it's relatively rare for shows to display examples of parents grieving their children. We have seen the cliché of a protagonist losing their parents, but the circumstances of a father losing his son changes when he needs to remain strong for the other youthful people in his life. Iroh mourns his son, but this is one of the only true times that we see him allow himself to be overcome with this emotion.

This moment is not only beautiful, but it teaches a valuable lesson. It tells children that you can still be strong and cry; something many young viewers could benefit from hearing.

To add the final note of sadness is of course that it acts as a memorial to Mako, the legendary actor who played Iroh. This is not only Avatar's most emotional moments, but one of the most emotional moments in TV in general.
