There are so few shows that truly manage to arrive, develop and complete satisfyingly. Avatar is one of the rare examples of a series that genuinely never had a weak spot. There are some less brilliant episodes here and there, but ultimately it achieves everything it needs to to be considered one of the best shows of all time.

This is apparent in the ending, every character gets a satisfying conclusion, and we had the opportunity to say goodbye perfectly. But it's the final shot that sums it up best.

Seeing the beautiful animation as Aang and Katara step outside onto the balcony, the moment they share and the subsequent kiss, all complimented with the astonishing music, sets up the significance of the entire journey they have shared. As the song swells and the characters embrace we raise to the sky, reminiscent of the opening title sequence, the sun is bright and beautiful as we are greeted with a classic "The End".

No words are spoken, they don't need to be; the imagery, the music, and the characters are what made this moment so perfect. It all feels justified, it is satisfying, and it brings a tear to all fans, as although we wanted more we knew this was the best way it could end.
