The Flash Season 1 arrived last year like a breath of fresh air. While the trend for superheroes was to go darker and grittier, as witnessed in its sibling show Arrow, The Flash was fast and fun, never afraid to crack a smile and refusing to allow an opportunity for a bad (read: terrific) pun go unmade. However, just because it had a sense of humour and playfulness doesn't mean it didn't handle some heavier issues as well, as evidenced in just about every scene Jesse L. Martin's Joe West was in. The most emotional of these came right at the very end, in the blistering season finale. In the episode, Barry travels back to the time of his mother's death, and actually has the chance to save her life. Doing so, though, would have unpredictable and unprecedented impact on the future from that point, perhaps changing the world irreversibly. Wracked with this inner-turmoil as he kneels over his mother's body, he makes the heart-wrenching decision to not save her, a bold decision that cemented this show's place as one of the best comic book offerings available, and brought a tear to many an eye.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
